Jie Cai received his B.S degree (2001) and Ph.D. (2006) from Wuhan University with Professor Lina Zhang. He was a JSPS Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Tokyo (2006-2009) with Professor Shigenori Kuga. He was appointed as an Associate Professor (2009) in the College of Chemistry and Molecular Sciences (CCMS) at Wuhan University, and the Chutian Scholars of Hubei Province (2010). He is currently the Professor of the CCMS at Wuhan University (2012), and the Luojia Young Scholars of Wuhan University (2014). He is the recipient of the Excellent Young Scientist Foundation of NSFC (2014). His early accomplishments in the development of alkali hydroxide/ urea aqueous solution for cellulose and new materials thereof have been honored by the First-place Technology Invention Prize of Hubei Province (2008), the Second Class National Natural Science Award (2012) and the Ten Major Scientific and Technological Progress of China's Colleges and Universities (2012). His research interests are the biomacromolecules research with particular emphasis on new solvent for chitin, cellulose- and chitin-based materials and composites thereof. He published over 70 articles in Adv. Mater., Angew. Chem. Int. Ed., Adv. Funct. Mater. and so on which have received over 3600 citations in SCI.
